What are cookies?

A cookie is a small data file stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website, enabling basic functionality or serving an additional purpose depending on the type of cookie. Cookies are created when your browser loads a specific website. We also use other technologies with similar purposes as cookies, such as pixel tags. When cookies are mentioned in this Cookie Policy, the term also includes these similar technologies. The purpose of cookies is benign; they are not harmful and cannot carry viruses. Nonetheless, cookies are under your control, and you can manage them at any time by accepting them (giving consent) or, just as easily, disabling them (withdrawing consent) and adjusting your cookie settings.

You can find more information about cookies on the following sites:

Please note that some cookies may transfer data outside the European Union and the European Economic Area to countries that do not offer an adequate level of data protection. For each cookie, it will be specified from which country the service provider is operating. Your consent is sought in all these cases.

  • Functional Cookies: These cookies provide additional functionalities to the website to improve the user experience.
  • Advertising Cookies: These cookies allow for the display of targeted ads, customised promotions, or marketing messages based on user interests and behavior.
  • Analytical Cookies: These cookies allow us to analyse the performance and behavior of website users using anonymised data to improve the functionality and efficiency of the website.
  • Personalization Cookies:These cookies enable personalized recommendations, customized content and settings, and an improved overall user experience.

Cookies by Source:

  • First-party Cookies: These cookies originate from the website you are visiting and may be persistent or session-based. They enable websites to store data that will be reused upon your next visit.
  • Third-party Cookies: These cookies come from other websites featured on the site you are visiting. They allow those external websites to track your internet use for marketing or analytical purposes.

Cookies by Duration:

  • Persistent Cookies: These cookies remain on your device even after closing your browser. Persistent cookies can remain on your computer or mobile device for days, months, or even years.
  • Session Cookies: These cookies are deleted once you close your browser. They store temporary data, such as the last few pages you visited on a website or items in a shopping cart.

How do the cookies we use work?

Below is a description of the cookies we use most frequently. However, not all cookies listed may be present on every website. The exact cookies in use will be detailed in the consent banner on the specific web page you are visiting.

Google Technologies

We use certain Google technologies, although we cannot fully influence how Google processes data. Please review Google's privacy policies to understand how they handle your personal data. Note that Google can combine data collected across its services (depending on your account settings) to enhance their services and ads displayed to you.

More information:

Google Tag Manager

This tool allows website tags to be managed via an interface. The Google Tag Manager is cookie-free and does not, in principle, record personal data. However, the tags managed through this tool might collect data. This technology is necessary for essential website functions to operate.

More information:

Google Analytics (analytical cookies)

We use Google Analytics 4 based on your consent to analyse website usage. Data is initially collected by us on the server side. We then forward this information to Google, which processes it on our behalf to analyse how you use the website, create reports on website activity, and provide us with additional services related to website usage. Sessions and campaigns automatically end after a specified period. User data is deleted or anonymised after 14 months, while cookies are stored for 24 months.

Additionally, we employ the IP anonymisation feature in Google Analytics. Google Analytics also utilises the Google Signals service, which helps us understand how users interact with the website across multiple devices and sessions. There is no direct data connection established between you and Google. Furthermore, cookies and other technologies are used to access information on your device.

More information:

Google Ads (marketing cookies)

We use Google Ads services for remarketing purposes, based on your consent. Google Ads uses cookies to generate conversion statistics for its advertising program. This remarketing service allows us to display more targeted ads for our website, tailored specifically to you and your interests. Remarketing involves showing ads about products you’ve shown interest in while visiting other websites. To enable this, when you visit our website where Google Ads is active, remarketing tags (pixels) are integrated into the webpage. These tags record websites you’ve visited, your interests, the offers you’ve clicked on, technical details about your browser and operating system, the websites you came from, the time of your visit, and other usage data. Based on this data, personalized ads relevant to your interests can be shown when you browse other websites.

With Google’s marketing services, user data is processed in a pseudonymised form. This means Google does not store or process your name or email address but rather associates relevant data with cookie-based pseudonymised user profiles. Essentially, Google cannot specifically identify you; ads are displayed to the cookie holder, not a personally identifiable individual. However, this does not apply if you’ve explicitly allowed Google to process data without pseudonymization. Information collected by Google’s marketing services is automatically forwarded to and stored on Google’s servers.

Alongside Google Ads, we use the "Enhanced Conversions" extension. Data entered into forms on our website is collected via tags, encrypted, and transmitted to Google Ads through an interface. This data is then matched by Google to existing user data to create comprehensive profiles. If you visit other websites utilizing Google Enhanced Conversions or similar Google services, this information may be linked to your unique Google ID. However, we do not access details of the other websites you visit. If you are logged into your Google account while browsing, your activity on our site, including data entries, is linked to your Google profile. To prevent this, you can log out of your Google account before visiting our website or withdraw your consent.

The purpose of this processing is to gain detailed insights into user behavior on our website, allowing us to better target advertisements and offers while optimising our campaigns. With Google Enhanced Conversions, we achieve a more holistic understanding of usage patterns and enhanced visibility in Google Ads analytics. We have no access to how Google might use this data for its purposes. Data is collected only with your explicit consent after form submission and once transmitted to us. The collected data is deleted after its purpose is fulfilled, no later than 60 days for unassociated data or 140 days for associated data.

Facebook Pixel (Meta Pixel) (Marketing Cookies)

We use the “Facebook Pixel” (now known as “Meta Pixel”) based on your consent. This involves tracking technologies. These tools enable us to monitor user behaviour after they have viewed or clicked on a Facebook ad. This process is used to assess the effectiveness of Facebook ads for statistical and market research purposes, as well as to optimise future promotional activities.

The data collected is provided to us in a pseudonymised format, and we generally do not have the means to identify individual users. However, the data is stored by Google and forwarded to Facebook, where it is processed. This allows it to be linked to individual user profiles, and Facebook may use the data for its own advertising purposes. Facebook, or its partners, can then deliver ads both on and off the platform. Additionally, a cookie may be stored on your device for this purpose.

Furthermore, Facebook Custom Audiences collects data related to your use of our website, enabling Facebook to link this information to your specific profile. Based on this data, you may be shown personalised promotional content on Facebook.

How to manage cookies?

Every visitor to our website can manage cookies that require consent.

When visiting any Valamar website, a cookie consent banner will appear, providing all the information about the cookies used on that specific site. To keep the information displayed in the cookie consent banner updated at all times and to track consents and withdrawals, we use the Usercentrics Consent Management Platform (Usercentrics GmbH). This platform collects consent and rejection data (including ID, time, and type), IP addresses, geographical location, referrer URLs, user preferences, and language settings. These cookies allow Usercentrics GmbH to inform users about specific tags and online technologies on our website, as well as to obtain, manage, and document user consent. Additionally, you can always delete cookies stored on your device, which will disable further processing of your personal data through such technologies. Each web browser has its own procedure for deleting cookies.

If you use our mobile apps, you can adjust your preferences within the app’s analytics settings.
If you do not wish to be tracked, you can activate the "Do Not Track" (DNT) option in your browser. This guarantees we will not monitor your online activities. Most browsers include a "Do Not Track" setting.

Additionally, if you delete your browsing history and simultaneously enable the option to delete cookies, this will remove all cookies currently stored on your device. Most modern browsers also allow you to block cookies from being stored on your device entirely.

What if I don’t want cookies?

Since cookies are designed to enhance and streamline your use of our website and its features, please be aware that blocking or deleting cookies may prevent certain functions from working as intended or may alter their appearance and performance within your browser.
